$2m upgrade for Katherine public housing

The NT Government’s $69 million housing repairs and maintenance program announced this week will be of “great benefit” to Katherine, MLA Sandra Nelson said.

“This program will greatly benefit our local construction industry and fast track critical repairs needed to public housing, which has already commenced at Bernhard Street complex,” Ms Nelson said.

“Local artist David Collins is working on murals to create a more vibrant streetscape at the Bernard Street complex.

A free information session to be held next Wednesday, March 14 from noon to 2pm at IBIS Styles, Stuart Highway, Katherine.

Treasurer Nicole Mansion said Government has listened to business and the community, and is investing $69 million into the Territory economy, providing job opportunities for local tradies through much-needed repairs and maintenance work on public housing stock.

“We know that a good job and good housing leads to better outcomes for the whole community,” she said.

“Starting immediately we will see $20 million in capital works dedicated to public housing complex upgrades across Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
