$4.7 million cost to provide emergency accommodation for domestic violence victims, homeless

Domestic violence and homelessness are costing taxpayers millions of dollars a year in motel fees as frontline services scramble to find safe places for women and children fleeing abuse.

For the first time The Advertiser can reveal the State Government spent $4.7 million on hotel or motel rooms for more than 4800 people seeking emergency accommodation last financial year.

The cost has almost doubled from $2.4 million two years earlier, as the number of at-risk South Australians soars.
