Affordable housing: An admirable aim that is not likely to be realised

It is admirable the Andrews government wants to provide affordable housing for the approximately 109,000 Victorian households identified as unable to afford renting, or buying and in danger of homelessness (“Social housing tower for Coburg“, The Sunday Age, 31/3). Its plan of a 12-storey social housing tower of 106 apartments, in theory, provides homes for 106 households, leaving 108,894 still at risk, but it’s a start and better than nothing.
