Alice Springs town camp residents plead with NT Government to repair derelict housing

Phil Miller is a lifelong resident of Anthepe town camp on the outskirts of Alice Springs, but the lights don’t work and the windows are boarded up.

His home is not quite what he had hoped for.

“This light doesn’t work… this one is always blinking… when we try and go to the toilet it’s too dark,” Mr Miller said.

All the windows in this public housing property are boarded up; Mr Miller has been asking for years for them to be repaired, without any luck.

“The Government better do something to renovate our houses… so we can live like a family, you know?” he said.

Other properties in the town camp are in disrepair, too.

Mr Miller used to live in his grandfather’s home, but it burned down six years ago and has never been fixed.
