Queensland’s leading provider of affordable housing Brisbane Housing Company has welcomed an historic $1.8 billion boost to affordable and social housing in the State Budget.
The Palaszczuk Government will fund more than one thousand affordable homes and 4,522 new social homes as part of a 10 year Queensland housing strategy.
BHC CEO David Cant said the government’s funding boost was significant.
“This will make a tangible difference to families and individuals living in housing stress and struggling to find affordable accommodation,” Mr Cant said.
Under the landmark housing strategy, the government will partner with the private sector and community housing providers and target vacant and underutilised government properties to increase affordable housing, a move Mr Cant has welcomed.
“Housing is a cornerstone in people’s lives, and BHC looks forward to unpacking this strategy further, and partnering with government to increase the supply of long term affordable rental housing for Queenslanders,” Mr Cant said.
“BHC have successfully partnered with the Queensland Government in the past, building high quality apartments on government land to deliver well-designed developments that meet the urgent demand for affordable housing across Brisbane.
“We look forward to working with the Queensland Government in the future to support them in the delivery of this 10 year plan.”
BHC has the largest wholly-owned, purpose-built affordable housing portfolio in Queensland and has helped more than 3000 households into more than 1500 modern new homes, across key growth locations throughout Brisbane.
