Housing affordability remains a critical issue in Western Australia and indeed nationally, as a growing proportion of the population struggles to find appropriate rental housing or get their foot on the ladder to purchase their own property.
If we are to improve this situation it is important that all levels of government, the property industry and the community work together to support the policy and funding environments needed to achieve a sustainable supply of affordable housing across the metropolitan area.
With both the federal and state budgets released last week within days of each other, it was an opportunity for both levels of government to work together and address housing affordability head on.
Unfortunately the Federal Government did not continue with the initiatives it laid down in its last budget, however, the State Government’s Budget included elements that will go some way towards addressing the supply side of the equation.
