Caravan park’s 80 residents a step closer to homelessness

RESIDENTS at a Coast caravan park are calling on the State Government to address what they believe is a low-cost housing shortage amid fears they’ll soon be homeless.

Military Jetty Caravan Park’s permanent residents are waiting with bated breath to know if they’ll be forced to move from their homes at the site which has been approved for a development of 27 units.

Expressions of interest closed last week, but real estate agents managing the sale were unable to comment on the outcome.

About 80 people live at the Golden Beach park with the majority being pensioners who are concerned the impending sale will leave them with little options for low cost housing.

A recent State Government announcement promised a $17 million investment for 243 new homes on the Coast which can also cater to seniors and pensioners thanks to the proposed construction’s high accessibility standards.

But, this is little help to residents in the immediate.
