JULIE Bishop says the Turnbull government won’t be intimidated by “hollow threats” after being accused of turning its back on indigenous Australians.
West Australian Housing Minister Peter Tinley has blasted the Commonwealth for slashing funding for remote housing and leaving states to pick up the bill.
Mr Tinley says the cuts will leave South Australia, Queensland and WA with a funding shortfall of hundreds of millions of dollars.
He says the pre-Christmas decision by Federal Indigenous Minister Nigel Scullion goes against the ‘Closing the Gap’ report and the Turnbull government’s own review into remote housing.
But his calls for senior members of the cabinet from WA to “stand up for their state and get the decision reversed” have fallen on deaf ears.
