Landcom to lead on affordable housing delivery – 5% a start but more needed

On 6 November Minister for Planning and Housing, the Hon Anthony Roberts announced that the State’s housing supply agency, Landcom, will “take a lead role” in the delivery of new affordable rental housing. The announcement was made with Landcom CEO John Brogden and Mirvac at the site of the new $8 billion 28-storey Green Square Town Centre development Ovo.

While increasing the current 3% affordable housing target to 5% is a good start, the critical lack of affordable housing requires much more ambitious targets. Shelter NSW advocates for a minimum 15 per cent affordable housing target for private developments and 30 per cent for redeveloped Government land.
