Community housing provider, Link Housing, is calling for art submissions from creatives of all abilities for its annual art exhibition taking place this August and September 2019. Artworks will be displayed for free across professional galleries and community spaces in West Ryde, North Sydney, Hornsby Shire and Northern Beaches.
The annual exhibition, now in its 4th year, was founded to highlight the importance of safe and secure housing and illustrate how a ‘home’ can transform lives. The exhibition also aims to raise awareness about the lack of affordable housing in Sydney. In line with this, Link Housing asks for the artists to reflect the theme of ‘No Place Like Home’ in their work.
Link Housing encourages people of all abilities to submit their artwork. Last year, creatives, artists and Link Housing residents from all over metropolitan Sydney contributed a great range of paintings, drawings and sculpture. An acrylic painting entitled ‘Sunrise on the Beaches’ reflected a personal connection between the ocean and home, whilst another called ‘Silence’ represented the discomfort of exclusion from home or community. Well-known Sydney-based artist, Jane Bennett, also showcased her paintings in 2017 to illustrate the powerful effects of a secure home.
Now in its 35th year, Link Housing is one of the oldest not-for-profit community housing providers in NSW. It is committed to enhancing the lives of the most vulnerable in our community through the supply of affordable, social and specialist disability (NDIS) housing. Andrew McAnulty, CEO of Link Housing, explained the importance of the exhibition:
“We are so pleased that the exhibition is going from strength to strength. We expanded to include Ryde last year and will do the same again this year as the exhibition continues to grow across Sydney. Thank you to the local councils – City of Ryde, North Sydney, Hornsby Shire and Northern Beaches – for supporting the exhibition and helping to raise awareness about the need for safe and affordable housing.”
