Lucrative public housing cleaning contracts extended despite fines

A company paid tens of millions of dollars to maintain Victoria’s most trouble-plagued public housing estates was repeatedly awarded government contracts despite being fined multiple times for “negligent” service.

GJK Facility Services has held six contracts since 2007 to clean public housing across Melbourne. Its latest contract was quietly extended in 2018 for another two years.

The highly profitable business last year helped the company – which is owned by two people – turn over revenue of $128 million and post a profit of $5 million.
