More affordable housing for Green Square as council sells land

The emerging metropolis in Green Square will include up to 80 extra affordable homes after the City of Sydney inked another deal for the subsidised sale of council land to a community housing provider.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore confirmed the council had agreed to sell its remaining parcel of land at 338 Botany Road in Alexandria to St George Community Housing.

Cr Moore said the council was “on track to deliver the largest concentration of affordable housing in the state” in Green Square.

It is the second deal of its kind negotiated by the council in Green Square in its bid to reach its affordable housing target. The target is designed to provide housing that can be rented at below-market rates to low-income workers.

In June, the council agreed to sell the adjacent parcel of land on the northern section of 338 Botany Road to City West Housing, on the understanding it would be used to build 200 affordable housing units.
