Portland public housing home fire believed to be deliberately lit

POLICE believe a fire which destroyed a $250,000 Brophy Family and Youth Services home in Portland was deliberately lit.

A Victoria Police ​arson squad chemist travelled to Portland on Tuesday, examined the scene and determined the cause of the fire was suspicious.

Portland police detectives are currently following up lines of inquiry.

The brick home at the corner of Portland’s Wellington Road and Willunga Street received extensive damage in a fire on Monday night.

Patrolling Portland police uniform officers raised the alarm about 8.30pm on Monday night.
