A report into Victoria’s infrastructure says the state government needs to reform the public housing sector to allow private investment.
The Victorian government should get rid of outdated public housing and allow private companies to invest in the sector, the state’s infrastructure agency says.
The government also needs additional early action to address the “existing maintenance backlog” in community housing, Infrastructure Victoria said in its annual report released on Tuesday.
Other suggestions include increased lobbying to the federal government for public housing funding, divesting from outdated buildings, and implementing reforms to support investment by the private sector.
