A new temporary accommodation village will be opened in Kaikōura for residents with quake-damaged homes.
The Associate Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Jenny Salesa, today announced a seven-unit village for the town.
Since the November earthquake last year more than 400 requests have been made to the Temporary Accommodation Service by households needing help finding somewhere to stay while their homes are repaired or rebuilt.
Of these requests, 269 were from Kaikōura District.
Ms Salesa said finding rental accommodation in the area has been difficult given the number of properties damaged in the quake, the severity of the damage, and the additional pressures for housing for recovery workers in the town.
