Townhouse transformation creates affordable housing in the west

We are excited to this week officially launch eight townhouses in Pennington, which we have transformed under a $1.9m project to create more affordable housing in Adelaide’s west.

Portway Housing Association’s latest community housing project involved a complete refurbishment of the previously vacant properties at 640 Torrens Rd, Pennington – opposite the St Clair development.

Major works included gutting the two-storey buildings and installing new kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces, as well as extensive work rewiring, plumbing and landscaping.

Rental prices for the three-bedroom properties are capped at 75 per cent of market value, adding to Portway’s range of affordable accommodation options in the community.

UnitingSA Chief Executive Officer Libby Craft says community housing is key to ensuring people on low incomes are able to access safe, secure accommodation.

“Affordable accommodation is critical to the communities we support and we are proud of our history providing a variety of low-cost housing options,” Ms Craft says.
