Tradies given boost after NT Government releases $25m public housing tender

A $25 MILLION public housing tender may have a multiplying effect keeping hundreds of tradies in jobs over the next 12 months, the construction industry said.

Deputy Chief Minister and Treasurer Nicole Manison released the public housing maintenance tender for repairs and maintenance to properties in the greater Darwin region yesterday.

“This tender will ensure ongoing work for Darwin tradies and businesses and keep public houses safe and functional,” Ms Manison said.

“There are more than 4000 public houses in the greater Darwin region, so there will be a lot of work opportunities for small and large contractors qualified in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, roofing and tiling to tender for this work.”

Master Builders Association NT executive director Dave Malone called for the work to be “pushed out the door quickly.”

“This will generate opportunities for local contractors and also keep up the value in the Government’s public housing stock — so a win/win for industry and the taxpayer,” he said.
